A devastating plane crash near Kenya’s coast has resulted in the tragic deaths of 10 European tourists and a local pilot. The aircraft, operated by Mombasa Air Safari, was en route from the popular beach resort of Diani to the well-known Maasai Mara game park when it went down at approximately 05:30 local time (02:30 GMT). The crash site is reported to be around 10 kilometers (six miles) from Kwale town.
The ill-fated flight included eight Hungarian nationals and two Germans, all of whom tragically lost their lives. The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) has confirmed the details, emphasizing its commitment to support the families affected by this heartbreaking event. Local commissioner Stephen Orinde mentioned that images circulating in the media depict the aircraft engulfed in flames, with debris scattered across the crash site.
Investigations are currently underway to determine the cause of this tragic incident, with initial suggestions pointing to possible bad weather conditions at the time of the crash. Orinde noted that the weather in the region has been poor lately, characterized by rain and mist, which may have contributed to this unfortunate event. However, the authorities are being cautious not to speculate prematurely about the findings.
