Ghana’s Preparation for World Cup 2026: Visa Talks with the US and Canada

The excitement of Ghanaian football fans is palpable with the Black Stars qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. In response to this anticipated event, the Ghanaian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has initiated discussions with the US Embassy and Canadian High Commission. The goal is to establish special visa arrangements for fans eager to support their national team across the tournament’s different host nations.

Representatives from Ghana’s government, including Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa and technical advisor Betty Krosbi Mensah, met with US acting ambassador Rolf Olson and Canadian acting high commissioner Dennis Roussel. These talks emphasized creating mutual understanding and addressing the expectations of all parties involved. It is crucial to streamline the visa facilitation process, ensuring that fans, team officials, and supporters can travel easily and efficiently.

Notably, the recent reversal of single-entry visa restrictions by the US government has opened up new possibilities for Ghanaian supporters. Fans will have the freedom to re-enter the United States during the World Cup, after attending matches in Canada and Mexico, without the burden of lengthy visa processes. Okudzeto has also confirmed plans for a meeting with officials from the Mexican embassy, aimed at solidifying arrangements that prioritize the convenience of football fans during this global sporting event.
