The Anti-Armed Robbery Unit (AARU) of the Ghana Police Service’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has arrested a prime suspect linked to a series of deadly robberies targeting taxi drivers across the Greater Accra Region.
In a statement released on October 17, 2025, the CID identified the suspect as Peter Akakpo, also known as “Dompe”, an ex-convict believed to be behind multiple killings and car thefts involving taxi drivers, particularly within the Odorkor enclave.
According to the police, the breakthrough follows months of intelligence-led operations and surveillance connected to the murders of two taxi drivers at Sakaman Blue Lagoon on May 9 and June 15, 2025.
Earlier investigations had led to the arrest of another suspect, Vincent Gbetorglo, on June 30, 2025. Police sources say communication records revealed that Gbetorglo had been in constant contact with Akakpo, and that Akakpo’s phone number was directly linked to both deceased drivers.
After several weeks of coordinated monitoring, Akakpo was finally arrested on October 13, 2025, at Kasoa-Domeabra, from a room reportedly rented by his accomplice, Gbetorglo. The police described the arrest as a significant step forward in dismantling a criminal network responsible for terrorizing commercial drivers in the capital.
Investigations are ongoing to locate and retrieve the vehicles belonging to the murdered taxi drivers, which are believed to have been stolen during the crimes.
The Ghana Police Service assured the public that the investigation is active and progressing steadily. Authorities emphasized their commitment to ensuring justice for the victims and restoring safety to the affected communities.
“The public is encouraged to remain vigilant and share any information that may assist ongoing investigations,” the CID’s statement concluded.
