A quick response by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) and members of the public helped avert a potentially deadly situation following a head-on collision on Patrice Lumumba Street in Accra on Sunday, December 7, 2025.
The accident involved a DAF articulator truck (GT 2354-12) and a Ford Transit minibus (GG 2863-22) in the Airport Residential Area.
According to a GNFS Facebook post, the emergency call came in at 11:51 a.m., prompting the immediate dispatch of a firefighting team, which arrived on the scene at 12:00 p.m. By that time, passersby had already rescued all 14 passengers from the minibus and transported them to the 37 Military Hospital for medical attention.
The firefighting crew, led by ADO I Yakubu, then focused on extricating the trapped minibus driver, successfully completing the operation within 10 minutes.
The injured driver was subsequently taken to the 37 Military Hospital by the National Ambulance Service, while the truck driver and his assistant escaped without injuries.
The GNFS praised the swift collaboration between the public and emergency responders, emphasizing that the prompt intervention was crucial in preventing further casualties.
