The Bono Regional Police Command has achieved a significant breakthrough in its ongoing campaign against armed robbery and organized crime in the region. A series of intelligence-led operations have led to the arrest of multiple suspects involved in robberies, firearm offences, and cross-border trafficking of stolen motorcycles and tricycles to Côte d’Ivoire.
Foiled Robbery on Berekum–Drobo Road
On 18 November 2025, a five-member gang attempted to rob travelers along the Berekum–Drobo road. Quick action by a police patrol team prevented the attack.
The gang members arrested include Johnson Amponsah Kwame Diawuo, 47, a former convict believed to be the ringleader; Kwafo Samuel, 30; and Shadrach Owusu, alias “Shark,” 25. During interrogations, Kwafo and Shadrach confessed to the attempted robbery and linked Amponsah Diawuo to several prior attacks in the Nkaseim area of the Ahafo Region.
Police later arrested Amponsah Diawuo at his hideout in Nyamennae, Berekum. Officers recovered Indian hemp, two machetes, and motorcycle helmets from his room.
Arrest of Another Armed Gang
In a second operation, Latif Mustapha, alias “Star Boy,” 28, and Mosby Owusu, 20, were apprehended at Domfete, Berekum. Latif attempted to evade arrest by hiding in his ceiling but was captured after a thorough search.
Authorities recovered a military camouflage uniform, a Taser, a toy Glock, pepper spray, knives, laptops, talismans, and suspected cannabis-laced toffees from Latif’s residence. Mosby Owusu’s room contained a Parabellum Model R-9 Hungarian pistol with two rounds of 9mm ammunition, reportedly purchased from Latif for GH₵9,000.
Another suspect, Kwabena Agon Azubilla Akalotey, 18, linked to the firearm, was already in remand for an unrelated theft case.
Cross-Border Trafficking Arrests
The police also arrested Kofi Iddrisa, 45, and Baba Kumi Foster, 35, in Ewiakrom near Nkrankwanta for their alleged roles in receiving stolen motorcycles and tricycles and transporting them to Côte d’Ivoire. Three motorcycles and a tricycle were recovered.
Court Proceedings
On 2 December 2025, Amponsah Diawuo, Shadrach Owusu, and Kwafo Samuel were arraigned before the Fiapre Circuit Court on conspiracy and attempted robbery charges and remanded to reappear on 22 December 2025.
Latif Mustapha and Mosby Owusu appeared before the Sunyani District Court B on charges of firearm possession, illicit trafficking, and unlawful possession of military uniforms. They were remanded to reappear on 15 December 2025.
Suspects Iddrisa and Foster have been granted police enquiry bail while investigations continue.

Police Appeal for Public Support
DCOP Joshua Coppson, Bono Regional Police Commander, urged residents to provide credible information to help apprehend remaining accomplices and recover additional weapons. He reiterated the command’s commitment to dismantling criminal networks and maintaining security across the region.
“We call on the good people of the Bono Region to support our efforts. Together, we can ensure lasting safety and security for our communities,” he stated.
