US Issues Strong Warning to 2026 World Cup Fans: “A Match Ticket Is Not a Visa” as New FIFA PASS System Launches

The United States has introduced a fast-track visa initiative for supporters planning to attend the 2026 FIFA World Cup, cautioning fans that match tickets alone will not grant them entry into the country.

Announced on Monday, November 17, 2025, the new system—called the FIFA PASS (Priority Appointment Scheduling System)—is designed to help international visitors secure quicker visa interview dates ahead of next year’s tournament. The program was unveiled at the White House by President Donald Trump, alongside FIFA President Gianni Infantino.

The scheme offers ticket holders priority access to U.S. embassy visa appointments, aiming to ease pressure on consular services as millions prepare to travel for the global football spectacle.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio emphasized the urgency for fans to begin their visa process early.

“Your ticket is not a visa,” Rubio stressed. “It doesn’t guarantee entry into the United States. What it guarantees is an expedited appointment—so apply as soon as possible.”

The 2026 World Cup will be staged across the U.S., Mexico, and Canada—though the majority of fixtures will be played in American cities. With a massive influx of visitors expected, U.S. authorities say they are preparing for heightened travel demand, increased airport processing, and heavier embassy workloads.

Officials describe the FIFA PASS program as part of America’s wider effort to balance efficient travel procedures with national security commitments, while supporting one of the world’s biggest sporting events.
