SML Defends Its Operations, Says Work Has Been Lawful and Technically Sound

Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited (SML) has firmly rejected claims by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) that its contracts with the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) lacked technical capacity and credible auditing tools.

At a press briefing on Friday, November 7, SML’s solicitor, Cephas Boyuo, described the OSP’s conclusions as “baseless, speculative, and misleading,” insisting that the company has always operated within the law and under full regulatory oversight.

“The OSP’s press conference was filled with speculation, innuendos, insinuations, and vile accusations rather than presenting clear facts and evidence to Ghanaians,” Boyuo said.

He stressed that SML’s operations have been lawful, transparent, and technically robust, adding that the company’s performance has been verified by relevant state agencies.

“SML has, from its inception, operated under full regulatory visibility. Our client and its operations have been lawful, technically sound, and nationally beneficial. The claim of inappropriateness or underperformance is inconsistent with verified evidence provided by the state agencies themselves,” he added.

The OSP’s report had earlier alleged that SML lacked both the institutional coordination and technical tools required to deliver its mandate under the GRA agreement.

SML, however, maintains that its work has enhanced revenue monitoring and assurance in Ghana’s petroleum and mining sectors, leading to improved accountability and efficiency in state revenue collection.
