SML Urges President Mahama to Reconsider Termination of GRA Contract

Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited (SML) has appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to reconsider his directive ordering the termination of all contracts between the company, the Ministry of Finance, and the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).

The appeal follows a recent directive from the Presidency—issued through Dr. Callistus Mahama, Secretary to the President—calling for the immediate cancellation of all SML-related agreements after the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) concluded its investigation into the company’s operations.

The OSP’s report alleged procurement breaches, overstepping of contractual terms, and questioned the necessity of SML’s services to the GRA.

However, addressing the media in Accra on Friday, November 7, SML’s solicitor, Cephas Boyuo, disclosed that the company had submitted a comprehensive written response to the President and the Attorney General, backed by documentary evidence.

“Earlier this afternoon, we delivered a comprehensive response to the President on his directive for the contract between the Ministry of Finance, GRA, and SML to be terminated, which hinged largely on the report of the OSP,” Boyuo said.

He explained that SML’s submission addressed each paragraph of the OSP report, clarifying what the company described as factual inaccuracies and misinterpretations.

“We are confident that a review of the documents presented to the President and the Attorney-General would help them appreciate the matters and form a fair, independent opinion on the termination directive,” he added.

SML maintains that its operations have significantly enhanced revenue assurance and transparency in Ghana’s petroleum and downstream sectors and insists that due process should be followed before any termination is finalized.
