Urgent Appeal for Repair: Kolpeliga CHPS Tricycle Ambulance Breaks Down

Tricycle Ambulance Breakdown

Health workers at the Kolpeliga Community-Based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound in the Talensi District, Upper East Region, are facing a critical challenge following the breakdown of the community’s only tricycle ambulance in 2022. This situation has left nurses struggling to transport patients, particularly expectant mothers and those in emergency cases, to nearby medical facilities.

The Impact on Healthcare Delivery

The tricycle ambulance, a vital mode of transport, had served the community for several years before developing a major mechanical fault. “It’s been very difficult for us. When pregnant women go into labour at night, we have no means to bring them here or take them to the referral centre. We are pleading with authorities and philanthropists to come to our aid,” shared nurse Peter Ayambire with GBC News.

A Call for Community Support

The Kolpeliga CHPS serves over 6,000 residents from both Kolpeliga and parts of Nyogbare in the Nabdam District. Local health officials are aware of the pressing issue, yet funds for repairs or replacement of the tricycle remain unavailable. Community member Elisha voiced that the breakdown has significantly impacted healthcare delivery, with many patients now transported on motorbikes or in alternative vehicles to reach referral facilities.

The community has begun contributions to repair the tricycle, yet the process is moving slowly. As they anxiously await assistance, healthcare workers continue their effort to provide care, hoping for the restoration of the lifeline that once supported their service.
