Suspect accused of ransacking US attorney Habba’s office arrested

A man suspected of ransacking the New Jersey office of Acting US Attorney Alina Habba has been arrested after several days on the run, according to US Attorney General Pam Bondi.

Bondi, announcing the arrest on X on Saturday, vowed that threats or attacks targeting federal prosecutors would not be tolerated. “No one will get away with threatening or intimidating our great US Attorneys or destroying their offices,” she said.

Authorities say the incident occurred on Wednesday when the suspect attempted to enter Habba’s office while holding a baseball bat. Security reportedly turned him away, but he later returned unarmed and allegedly vandalized federal property in the reception area before escaping. The FBI had earlier warned that he should be considered dangerous and issued a $25,000 reward for information leading to his capture.

Habba, who previously served as Donald Trump’s personal lawyer before being appointed the state’s top federal prosecutor, also confirmed the arrest on X with the message, “We got him,” thanking federal agencies for their work.

According to the FBI, the suspect is expected to face charges including possession of a dangerous weapon in a federal facility and destruction of federal property. Investigators have not released any information on a possible motive.

Habba has been acting as New Jersey’s chief federal prosecutor since March. A federal judge ruled in August that she has been serving in the role unlawfully without Senate confirmation. Her case is now before an appeals court. During her tenure, she has clashed with Democratic officials and launched investigations into several state leaders.
