Ghanaian dancehall star Shatta Wale has unveiled a new initiative dubbed “Project 1 Cedi” — a community-driven project designed to help create jobs and tackle unemployment among his fans.
Announcing the initiative on social media, the artist, whose real name is Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr, said the idea came after receiving numerous complaints from unemployed members of the Shatta Movement (SM) fan base.
“SM FANS LET’S START PAYING OUR DUES AND CREATE EMPLOYMENT OUT OF THAT. I AM GETTING TOO MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT UNEMPLOYED FANS. I CAN’T DO IT ALL BUT WE ALL CAN,” he wrote.
The project calls on fans to voluntarily contribute ₵1 (one Ghana cedi) to a collective fund that will be used to generate job opportunities and empower members economically.
Following his announcement, social media buzzed with reactions and suggestions from fans. Many praised Shatta Wale for his leadership and vision, proposing that the movement establish an official platform, issue membership cards, and use mobile money systems to manage contributions transparently.
Others recommended that the initiative focus on job creation in innovative sectors such as electric car promotion, charging station setups, and small business support.
Some fans even playfully hinted that Shatta Wale’s growing influence could propel him into national leadership someday, with one commenter writing:
“Wale will do aaah then one day bam! EC will say: it is my honor and duty to declare Charles Nii Armah Mensah as the president-elect.”
Overall, the “Project 1 Cedi” initiative has been met with widespread enthusiasm, with many calling it a bold and practical step toward self-reliance and community empowerment within the Shatta Movement.
