President John Dramani Mahama has donated a large consignment of food items, medical supplies, and relief materials worth about GH¢10 million to support victims of war in Sudan and those affected by Hurricane Melissa in Jamaica and Cuba.
The humanitarian aid package includes:
2,400 bags of Adidome rice
1,500 mattresses and 500 pillows
100 cartons of fortified gari mix
50,000 T-shirts
Three 20-footer containers of assorted chocolate and cocoa products
20 water storage tanks (500 litres each)
20 hand-wash stations
10 portable emergency toilets
540 bags of sugar
377 boxes of assorted medications
According to President Mahama, 50% of the items will go to Jamaica, 30% to Cuba, and 20% to Sudan’s Red Cross Society for displaced persons in camps.
He emphasized that the gesture reflects Ghana’s enduring commitment to international solidarity and humanitarian support.
“Although the world’s focus is now on Ukraine and Gaza, the crisis in Sudan remains dire. Thousands are still in camps, and it’s only right that every nation contributes something, no matter how small,” he said.
President Mahama also recalled Ghana’s history of extending help to nations in distress — including Guinea, Congo, and Japan — and reaffirmed that this act of generosity demonstrates Ghana’s compassion and global responsibility.
“Jamaica has been hardest hit by Hurricane Melissa, followed by Cuba. Ghana stands with them in this difficult moment,” he added.
The donation reinforces Ghana’s reputation as a nation that values empathy, peace, and cooperation on the world stage.
