Police in the capital Accra have detained a number of suspects in connection with an armed robbery at a jewellery store in the Adabraka area. The operation followed an intensive investigation by the Greater Accra Regional Police Command.
According to authorities, the robbery occurred recently when armed men stormed the premises of the jewellery outlet, threatening staff and making off with a quantity of gold ornaments and other valuables. Shaken customers and employees reported the incident to the police, prompting a rapid response.
In the days that followed, detectives and patrol teams carried out targeted operations, leading to the arrest of several individuals believed to have played key roles in the crime. Police say the suspects are currently in custody and assisting with further inquiries. A number of exhibits, including some jewellery suspected to have been stolen, have been recovered as part of the ongoing investigation.
The Regional Police Commander praised officers for their quick work and urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities promptly. He also appealed to business owners in the area to enhance security measures at their premises to deter criminals.
Store staff have expressed relief at the arrests but say they hope the full consignment of stolen goods will be recovered. The development has also drawn comments from local residents, many of whom voiced concern about the safety of shops and businesses in the busy commercial hub.
Police say formal charges will be filed against the suspects once investigations are complete, and assured the public that efforts are ongoing to bring all perpetrators to justice.
