More than 150 people, mostly young men, have been arrested in a joint police and military operation carried out in the Ahafo Region early Wednesday morning.
The coordinated security sweep, which targeted Kenyasi in the Asutifi North District and Hwediem in the Asutifi South District, was aimed at restoring calm and tightening security in the area.
According to security sources, the suspects have been transferred to the Police Headquarters in Accra for further interrogation and profiling.

While officials have yet to issue an official statement, the operation follows recent tensions between anti-illegal mining taskforces and local youth during the NAIMOS–Bronikrom clashes, which resulted in violent confrontations and unrest.
Residents in both Kenyasi and Hwediem reported heavy security presence at dawn, with armed personnel conducting house-to-house checks and screening individuals as part of the crackdown.
Local authorities say the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to maintain law and order, prevent retaliatory violence, and ensure lasting peace across the Ahafo Region.
