NPA Scandal: OSP Seizes Assets Worth Over GH¢100 Million

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has announced major progress in its investigation into the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) corruption scandal, revealing the seizure and freezing of assets valued at more than GH¢100 million and over US$100,000.

In a statement posted on Tuesday, November 4, the OSP said additional properties and financial holdings remain under active tracing as part of its ongoing probe into alleged financial crimes involving former NPA officials.

“The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has already seized and frozen assets valued at more than GH¢100 million and over US$100,000, with additional assets under active tracing,” the statement said.

The OSP explained that the asset recovery exercise is backed by “strong documentary, banking, and transaction evidence linking the proceeds to the alleged offences.”

Officials noted that the operation forms part of the Office’s broader mandate to promote transparency, protect state resources, and ensure accountability in public office.

“This case represents a major step in protecting public funds, ensuring accountability in the petroleum sector, and affirming that no public official is above the law,” the statement added.

The OSP emphasised that the recovery process highlights its determination to curb corruption and illicit financial flows, stressing that all individuals implicated in serious economic offences will face justice.

“The seriousness of the charges and the scale of the alleged losses make this prosecution a critical test of Ghana’s commitment to fighting corruption,” the Office said.

The ongoing investigation involves former NPA Chief Executive Dr. Mustapha Abdul-Hamid and six others, accused of financial misappropriation and causing financial loss to the state during their time in office.
