The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has ramped up efforts to promote liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) safety across tertiary institutions in Ghana. The initiative aims to educate students and the community on safe LPG practices, especially following recent gas-related incidents.
Led by Mrs. Eunice Budu Nyarko, the Ag. Director of Consumer Services, a dedicated team from the NPA visited various regions to engage students and traders. Highlighted during these sessions were the health, safety, and environmental benefits of utilizing LPG responsibly. The team facilitated interactive demonstrations, open discussions, and distributed educational materials to raise awareness on the safe use of LPG.
During his demonstrations, Mr. Johnson Gbagbo Jnr emphasized crucial safety tips such as regular inspection of LPG cylinders, proper ventilation, and immediate action in case of gas leaks. Additionally, he introduced students to the Cylinder Recirculation Model (CRM), a vital national policy aimed at ensuring safety in LPG distribution. This initiative encourages students to champion LPG safety both on campus and in their communities.
Mrs. Nyarko further informed participants about the environmental advantages of LPG over traditional fuels. She explained how traditional fuels, like firewood and charcoal, contribute to respiratory and cardiovascular illnesses. LPG stands as a cleaner alternative that supports public health objectives.
Through these efforts, the NPA is committed to enhancing safety standards within the petroleum sector and assures consumers of its readiness to address concerns effectively.
