The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Squad (NAIMOS) has halted widespread destruction of cocoa farms caused by illegal mining activities at Adanse Anomabo in the Bosome Freho District of the Ashanti Region.
According to the taskforce, the action was triggered by multiple petitions from the local cocoa farmers association, who reported that galamsey operators had invaded their farmlands, threatening their livelihoods and the survival of their crops.
Acting on intelligence, NAIMOS stormed the mining zone—popularly known as the Kakra site—where the illegal miners fled upon sighting the team, abandoning their equipment and tools. The taskforce noted that the area had suffered extensive destruction, leaving many cocoa farmers distressed and fearful for their futures.
Six excavators discovered on-site were disabled to prevent further use in illegal operations. Authorities also seized a pump-action gun and seven cartridges during the raid.
Additionally, makeshift structures used by the miners were demolished and set ablaze, along with pipes and other mining equipment, as part of efforts to permanently halt activities in the area.
NAIMOS says it remains committed to protecting farmlands, water bodies, and communities affected by galamsey across the country.
