NAIMOS Arrests Two Chinese Nationals for Galamsey on Subri River in Western Region

The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations (NAIMOS) Taskforce has arrested two Chinese nationals accused of engaging in illegal mining along the Subri River at Bekwai Subrisu in the Western Region.

The arrest occurred on Monday, December 8, 2025, at about 10:30 a.m. when NAIMOS operatives conducted a targeted raid on suspected galamsey sites in the area. The suspects were allegedly working with two excavators and additional mining tools positioned along the riverbank.

According to the taskforce, the illegal mining operations had severely contaminated the Subri River and other nearby water sources. Large tracts of land in the community have also been scarred from the destructive activities.

During the operation, NAIMOS officers dismantled several metal platforms used for trapping gold and destroyed three industrial water-pumping machines to prevent further mining on the site.

The two suspects have since been transported to Accra and handed over to the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) for the next phase of investigations and enforcement.

NAIMOS reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining unannounced operations across the country as part of efforts to combat galamsey and safeguard Ghana’s natural environment.
