The Kumasi High Court has recently made headlines by dismissing an application that sought to halt the burial and funeral arrangements for the late Ghanaian highlife icon, Charles Kwadwo Fosuh, widely known as Daddy Lumba. This legal battle, sparked by a complex widowhood dispute, underscores the tensions surrounding funeral control following the musician’s passing on July 26, 2025.
Madam Akosua Serwaa Fosuh, the applicant, claims to be the only legal wife of Daddy Lumba. She filed the injunction against the head of the extended family, Kofi Owusu Fosu, and another woman, named Ms. Priscilla Ofori (known as ‘Odo Broni’), who also asserts she was married to the singer and has children with him. This case highlights the difficult questions surrounding marital legitimacy and the rights of widows in Ghana.
Despite the court’s ruling, which allows the funeral and burial ceremonies to proceed as planned, the situation remains fraught with tension. Proposed final funeral rites are set to take place on December 6, 2025, at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.
