Kofi Adams Champions Africa’s Voice at the 2025 World Anti-Doping Summit in South Korea

Ghana’s Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Iddie Adams, has represented both Ghana and the wider African region at the 2025 World Conference on Doping in Sport held in Busan, South Korea.

The global summit, organised by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) in partnership with the Korean Anti-Doping Agency (KADA) and the Busan Metropolitan Government, brought together more than 1,500 delegates from over 190 countries.

As a member of WADA’s Foundation Board, Adams delivered a major statement on behalf of Africa during the board’s meeting. He reiterated the continent’s strong backing for WADA’s strategy to deepen private-sector collaboration and expand donor support. Drawing from Africa’s own experiences, he highlighted the long-running partnership between the continent and broadcaster SuperSport, which has helped fund and promote anti-doping programmes.

Adams also joined a high-profile African caucus meeting made up of sports ministers, legal experts and officials from the African Union Sports Council. The session, chaired by AU official Amma Twum-Amoah, focused on strengthening Africa’s anti-doping structures, improving infrastructure and supporting countries to meet global compliance requirements.

Ghana received praise during the conference for recent advances in sports governance. The country’s new Anti-Doping Law, passed in 2025, and ongoing work to establish a fully operational National Anti-Doping Agency, were cited as major steps in promoting clean sport across the continent.

WADA officials acknowledged Ghana’s progress as an example of how African nations are taking greater responsibility for enforcing anti-doping rules and building institutions that can stand alongside international standards.

The 2025 conference in Busan marks the latest phase of WADA’s global roadmap to strengthen anti-doping efforts, enhance cooperation across regions and align countries with upcoming reforms to the World Anti-Doping Code.
