Inspector Ahmed Twumasi, a member of the Special Weapons and Tactics unit (SWAT), has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of his girlfriend, Victoria Dapaah, known as Maadwoa. The ruling came from a Kumasi high court on October 24, 2025, following a 5-2 jury decision that confirmed his guilt in this tragic case.
On April 20, 2023, 26-year-old Maadwoa was fatally shot multiple times at her home, a horrific event that rattled the local community. The incident was reported by a family member, leading to the emergency medical response that ultimately confirmed her death at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital. The chilling nature of the crime, along with the fact that Maadwoa was a mother, only compounded the grief felt by her family and friends.
Inspector Twumasi initially pleaded not guilty to the murder allegations when he first appeared in court. However, after two and a half years of judicial proceedings, the evidence presented was compelling enough for the jury to convict him. Following the verdict, the presiding judge, Lady Justice Rosemary Baah Tosu, remarked on the importance of the trial for Maadwoa’s family, who had steadfastly attended every hearing, seeking justice for their lost loved one.
Upon hearing the sentence, Maadwoa’s relatives erupted in celebration, marking this verdict as a significant victory in their pursuit of justice. Their journey has not only been about legal proceedings but also a testament to their resilience and love for their departed family member.
