Investigation Underway: Construction Halted After Roman Ridge Building Collapse

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has taken decisive action following the collapse of a three-storey building at the Roman Ridge Engineering Centre. This unfortunate incident, which occurred on Tuesday afternoon, has led the GNFS to suspend all construction activities on the site immediately. The building, reportedly managed by Fabrico Builders, was located between a 10-storey high-rise apartment and the Ghana Institute of Engineering.

Upon receiving a distress call at 12:18 p.m., emergency teams were quick to respond. A team from the national headquarters, led by Ado II Ankrah, arrived at the scene just eleven minutes later. Fortunately, all 14 individuals affected—who were all men—had already been rescued and were transported to the 37 Military Hospital and Ridge Hospital for treatment. Eyewitness accounts indicate that while there were various injuries sustained, there were no reported fatalities at the time of the report.

As investigations into the cause of the building collapse get underway, the GNFS has emphasized the need for the site manager to halt all ongoing construction work. This precautionary measure aims to ensure safety and compliance with existing regulations. The GNFS has committed to providing updates as more information regarding the incident becomes available, emphasizing their dedication to public safety and the integrity of construction practices.
