FIFA President Gianni Infantino is facing allegations of breaching the organization’s political neutrality statute after publicly expressing support for former U.S. President Donald Trump’s political agenda during an event in Miami.
The claims were raised by Miguel Maduro, former chairman of FIFA’s Governance Committee, who said Infantino’s remarks represented a clear violation of Article 15 of the FIFA Code of Ethics, which requires FIFA officials to remain strictly neutral in political matters.
Speaking at the America Business Forum, Infantino reportedly praised Trump’s policies, saying his program “looks pretty good” and adding, “I think we should all support what he’s doing.” These statements sparked immediate debate about FIFA’s adherence to its own ethical standards.
Maduro emphasized that such comments undermine FIFA’s credibility as a politically neutral global sports body, warning that public endorsements risk politicizing football administration and eroding public trust in its governance.
As of now, FIFA has not issued an official response regarding the allegations or Infantino’s comments. The controversy reignites discussions about how sports organizations navigate the delicate balance between leadership influence and political impartiality.
