Ghana, The Bahamas Sign MoU to Recruit Ghanaian Teachers and Nurses

Ghana has officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with The Bahamas to strengthen labour mobility and facilitate the recruitment of Ghanaian teachers and nurses for work in the Caribbean nation.

The agreement was signed by Emmanuel Agyekum, Minister of State in charge of Special Initiatives, during a visit to Nassau. He was accompanied by Mr. Nelson Ndebah Ndebugre from the Office of the President.

As part of the visit, Minister Agyekum held talks with Prime Minister Philip Edward “Brave” Davis of The Bahamas to reaffirm both nations’ commitment to expanding cooperation through skills exchange and people-centered development.

Under the first phase of the partnership, experienced Ghanaian teachers and nurses will be recruited to serve in Bahamian schools and healthcare facilities. The initiative is designed to provide international exposure and employment opportunities for skilled Ghanaian professionals while helping The Bahamas address its human resource needs in the education and health sectors.

Speaking at the signing ceremony on October 22, Minister Agyekum described the collaboration as a “win-win” for both countries, highlighting that it reflects the world’s confidence in Ghana’s human resource capacity.

“This initiative not only creates opportunities for Ghanaian teachers and nurses to contribute globally but also strengthens the bonds of friendship and cooperation between Ghana and The Bahamas,” he said.

He assured that the welfare, rights, and safety of all recruited personnel would be prioritized, emphasizing that the recruitment process will be transparent and conducted in close collaboration with Bahamian authorities and relevant Ghanaian agencies.

Mr. Agyekum also revealed that the MoU could pave the way for future collaborations in other key sectors, including commerce, tourism, culture, and human capital development.

He expressed appreciation to the Government and people of The Bahamas for their continued partnership and hospitality, noting that the agreement aligns with Ghana’s broader vision of promoting skills export and strengthening its global presence through strategic cooperation.

“This MoU represents a bridge of opportunity between our peoples and our shared aspirations,” Minister Agyekum concluded.
