Ghana Boxing Authority Sanctions Three Over Unauthorised Lagos Fight

The Ghana Boxing Interim Management Committee (GBIMC) has imposed disciplinary sanctions on three license-holders for participating in an unauthorised boxing event in Lagos, Nigeria, on October 1, 2025, in violation of Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) regulations.

Those sanctioned include boxer Elvis Ahorgah, trainer Daniel Ayiquaye, and matchmaker Daniel Donkor.

According to the GBIMC, Ahorgah renounced his GBA license and fought under the Nigerian Boxing Board of Control without obtaining official clearance from Ghana’s boxing authorities. His actions, coupled with his failure to appear before the disciplinary committee, were described as “unpatriotic” and a serious breach of the GBA’s ethical code.

As a result, Ahorgah’s license has been withdrawn, and he has been indefinitely suspended from professional boxing in Ghana. He was also fined GH¢5,000.

Trainer Daniel Ayiquaye admitted to an “error in judgment” and received a two-month suspension along with a GH¢1,000 fine. Matchmaker Daniel Donkor was handed a three-month suspension and a GH¢1,000 fine.

The committee stated that all fines must be paid within two months, warning that failure to comply will result in extended suspensions.

The GBIMC reiterated its commitment to upholding discipline, professionalism, and regulatory integrity within Ghanaian boxing, emphasizing that any future violations will be met with similar firmness.
