A section of the Kwapong Nursing Training College in the Asunafo South District of the Ahafo Region was engulfed by fire on Thursday, causing extensive damage to school property worth millions of cedis.

Eyewitnesses reported scenes of panic as students fled to safety while firefighters from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) battled to contain the blaze. The fire, which broke out in one of the main blocks of the college, quickly spread to nearby structures before it was brought under control.

School authorities have confirmed that no lives were lost, and all students and staff were safely evacuated. However, several learning materials, furniture, and personal belongings were destroyed in the inferno.

The cause of the fire remains unknown. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine what triggered the incident.

“We are working closely with the Fire Service to identify the source of the fire and assess the full extent of the damage,” a school official stated.

The Ahafo Regional Directorate of the Ghana National Fire Service has since cautioned educational institutions to adhere strictly to fire safety measures to prevent similar occurrences.
