Government Commitment to Public Transport
President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his administration’s pledge to enhance affordable and efficient public transport systems across Ghana. This commitment was articulated during the opening of a three-day transport and logistics fair in Accra, emphasizing the government’s ongoing efforts to improve accessibility for all citizens. Affordable public transport plays a crucial role in connecting communities and supporting economic growth.
Safety and Regulation of Commercial Transport
In addition to expanding public transport, President Mahama highlighted the establishment of a robust regulatory framework for commercial motorbikes and tricycles. This initiative aims to ensure safe and responsible operations within the passenger service sector. By prioritizing safety and orderliness, the government envisions a transport system that not only meets the needs of its citizens but also fosters a sustainable environment.
Innovative Transport Solutions for National Development
As part of a broader agenda focused on modernizing Ghana’s transport systems, the government is introducing innovative solutions, including electric mobility infrastructure and climate-smart investments. This initiative aligns with the fair’s theme: “Resetting Ghana’s transport sector for improved connectivity, innovation, and investment.” The Ministry of Transport is also advancing plans for a national airline and enhancing airport infrastructure to ensure a comprehensive transport ecosystem that drives growth and national development.
