Exciting Changes to NHIS: No More Waiting Period for New Members

The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has removed the standard one-month waiting period for new NHIS members and individuals whose cards have been inactive for more than three months. The waiver, introduced as part of the NHIS Active Month campaign, will be in effect from now until 14th December 2025.

With this temporary policy, anyone who registers for the scheme or renews an expired card will immediately enjoy full NHIS benefits—eliminating the usual delay before coverage begins.

According to the Authority, the initiative is aimed at boosting active NHIS membership while making healthcare more accessible and convenient for all Ghanaians.

The NHIA is encouraging the public to take advantage of the window by visiting any NHIS district office, using the MyNHIS App, or dialing *929# to renew or sign up. Members can also activate the Auto-Renewal option to avoid future lapses in coverage.

The Authority particularly urged those whose cards have been expired for over three months to renew as soon as possible to maintain continuous access to affordable, quality healthcare services.
