Justice Torkornoo’s Resilience Recognized
Sulemana Braimah, the executive director of the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA), has voiced his admiration for former Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo following her courageous challenge against her removal from office. Speaking on Joynews’ Newsfile on Saturday, October 18, Mr. Braimah emphasized the importance of commending Justice Torkornoo for her unwavering stance amid public scrutiny and political pressures.
A Call for Understanding
In his remarks, Braimah highlighted that Justice Torkornoo’s resilient decision to contest the process leading to her removal should not be seen as simple defiance. Instead, he believes it embodies a significant opportunity to enhance Ghana’s legal system. “I think that I would commend the former chief justice for her resilience,” he stated. He further urged the public to recognize her legal expertise, considering her background and successful ascent in the judicial system.
A Legal Team Standing Firm
Mr. Braimah also pointed out that Justice Torkornoo is not navigating this situation in isolation. Supported by a capable legal team, including notable figures like former Attorney General Ayikoi Otoo, she is engaged in a legal fight that may contribute positively to the nation’s legal landscape. Drawing parallels with previous events, Braimah recalled the lessons learned from the 2012 election petition, asserting that despite the petitioners’ loss, the process ultimately improved the electoral framework in Ghana.
