The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, held a high-level closed-door meeting with the President of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi to discuss matters of mutual interest between Asanteman, Ghana, and Germany.

The meeting formed part of President Steinmeier’s three-day working visit to Ghana, which included a tour of the Ashanti Region.

Upon his arrival at the palace, the German President was greeted with a rich display of traditional Kete and Adowa performances by the Manhyia Royal Cultural Troupe, showcasing Asanteman’s vibrant heritage.

He was led to the palace by the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, and received by the Paramount Chief of Juaben, Nana Otuo Serebuor, Ghana’s immediate past Chairman of the Council of State, and Bafuor Kwame Kantankrakyi, one of the Asantehene’s senior linguists.

The delegation was ushered into the Conference Hall of the newly built Manhyia Jubilee Hall, where the Asantehene was waiting to receive the German leader.

Following brief formalities and an exchange of pleasantries, both leaders retreated into a private meeting where they reportedly discussed development cooperation, cultural exchange, investment partnerships, and regional stability.

After the discussions, President Steinmeier joined the Asantehene and palace officials for an informal interaction with traditional leaders before departing.

The visit underscores the deepening relations between Ghana and Germany and highlights the growing recognition of traditional leadership’s role in promoting diplomacy, development, and peace.
