Asante Kotoko Edge Hearts of Oak 1-0 in Thrilling Super Clash Showdown

Asante Kotoko earned a hard-fought 1-0 victory over arch-rivals Hearts of Oak in a tense Super Clash encounter of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, November 9, 2025.

The decisive moment came late in the first half when Kotoko were awarded a penalty after Amankwah Baafi fouled Peter Amidu Acquah inside the box. Morifing Donzo stepped up confidently to slot home from the spot, giving the Porcupine Warriors the crucial lead.

The penalty call sparked heated reactions among fans, but despite a spirited second-half fight from Hearts, Kotoko held firm to secure maximum points.

Hearts of Oak dominated possession after the break, with Raphael Amponsah testing the Kotoko goalkeeper from distance and Hamza Issah coming close from a deflected pass. In added time, Mawuli Wayo thought he had equalized with a brilliant finish, but the goal was ruled offside after consultation between the referee and his assistants.

Kotoko started the match on the front foot, threatening through Saaka Dauda and Hubert Gyau, while Hearts took time to settle into their rhythm. Statistically, Kotoko recorded six shots—three on target—compared to Hearts’ five attempts with just one on goal.

The win means Kotoko have now beaten Hearts in four of their last five league meetings, reaffirming their dominance in recent encounters.

With the result, Kotoko climb to seventh place on the league table, five points adrift of the leaders, but with three games in hand. Hearts, on the other hand, suffered their first league defeat of the campaign and will look to bounce back midweek against Swedru All Blacks, while Kotoko travel to face Vision FC.
