The Northern Regional Police Command, in collaboration with the Inspector-General of Police’s Special Operations Team, has successfully arrested 27 individuals in a significant anti-drug campaign across the region.

The operation, targeting known drug hotspots in and around Tamale, led to the detention of several suspects, including Iddrisu Abdul Bassit, Iddrisu Sadick, Yawuza Hishan, Yakubu Yussif, Alhassan Abukari, Mutaru Daniel Fisco, Ibrahim Abdul Wakil, Hawa Abdul Rahman, Latifa Iddrisu, Mariam Fuseini, Ibrahim Sadia, Alima Iddrisu, and Issah Latifa. The coordinated raids were carried out on 19th November 2025.

Authorities seized dried leaves suspected to be cannabis, packaged in polythene bags, along with five motorbikes allegedly used for drug transport. Further operations in Tamale brought the total arrests to 27, all of whom are now under the custody of the Northern Regional Drug Law Enforcement Unit for ongoing investigations.

On 21st November 2025, nine suspects—five females and four males—appeared before the Tamale Circuit Court, facing charges of unlawful possession of narcotic substances. Another individual was charged with unlawful possession of arms and ammunition. All ten suspects pleaded not guilty and were granted bail, while the remaining 18 are being held on remand as the police continue to dismantle the drug distribution networks.

Chief Inspector Alhassan Luckman Niendow, the Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the arrests and the ongoing investigations.
